Test to assess the delayed type of hypersensitivity of the test test item.
The basic principle of this method is, that after the second (challenge) test item application the delayed reactions will be observed and recorded in guinea pigs.
Guinea pigs.
The guinea pigs are initially exposed to the test item by intradermal injection and/or topical application (induction exposure). Following an induction period, during which an immune response may develop, the animals are treated with a challenge exposure (topical application).
The extent and degree of skin reaction are observed and scored after the challenge exposure. The results of the animals treated with test item (one dose group) are compared to the control animals.
