Cytotoxicity screening of biomaterials or medical devices based on colony formation of V79 cells.
In vitro assay. The V79 lines of Chinese hamster cells has a stable growth curve and as such a high rate of colony formation therefore they are suitable for screening cytotoxicity test.
Cells are treated with the test item. After incubation, when the colonies are formed and observed, the cells are stained.
The cell survive is determined as the plating efficiencies (PE) ratio.
